✦ Safa is currently in private betaSafa is a Hebrew conversation-practice app. You speak with an AI tutor, and the app remembers what you talked about so the next conversation builds on the last one. This page explains what that means for your data.
Who we are
Safa is operated by Wheat Hill Tech. For any question about this policy or your data, email hello@wheathill.dev.
What we collect
Your account. Your name and email address, and a password stored only as a cryptographic hash — we never see or store your actual password. Your name is used so the tutor can address you.
Your conversations. When you start a session, your microphone audio is streamed to our speech provider so the tutor can hear and reply to you. We receive and store a text transcript of each conversation, along with basic details like how long it lasted and how many turns each side took.
Notes the tutor keeps about you. After a session, we use the transcript to write a short set of notes and a plan for your next conversation — things like "is learning Hebrew to speak with colleagues" or "still working on gender agreement." These notes exist so the tutor can pick up where you left off. They are written from what you actually said in your sessions.
Basic technical information needed to run the service, such as your login session and error logs.
Why we use it
Only to run the product: to sign you in, to hold a conversation with you, to remember what you have practised, and to prepare your next session. During the beta we also read our own logs and data to find bugs and improve the tutor.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use your recordings or transcripts to train AI models.
Who else processes it
Safa is built on a few third-party services. Each receives only what it needs:
| Service | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| ElevenLabs | Your spoken audio, the transcript, and your account identifier | Runs speech recognition, the tutor's replies, and the voice you hear. ElevenLabs also stores a recording of the conversation on their systems. Privacy policy ↗ |
| Anthropic | Your session transcripts and the tutor's notes about you | Generates the plan and notes for your next session. Privacy policy ↗ |
| Railway | Everything stored in our database — account, transcripts, notes | Hosts our server and database. Privacy policy ↗ |
| Expo | Basic device and app-version information when checking for updates | Delivers app updates. Privacy policy ↗ |
These providers handle data under their own terms, linked above. Apple's TestFlight also processes your Apple ID and basic install information in order to distribute the beta.
Where it is stored
Your account, transcripts, and tutor notes are stored in our database, hosted by Railway. Audio recordings are held by ElevenLabs. Data may be processed on servers outside your country, including in the United States.
How long we keep it
We keep your account, transcripts, and notes for as long as your account exists, because the notes are what make the tutor remember you.
Because this is a beta, we may delete all beta data when the beta ends. If we do, we will tell you first.
You can ask us to delete your account and everything associated with it at any time — see below.
Your choices
- Delete your data. Email deletemydata@wheathill.dev and we will delete your account, transcripts, and notes. During the beta this is handled by hand, normally within a few days.
- Get a copy of your data. Email the same address and we will send you what we hold.
- Stop recording. The microphone is only used during a session you started, and only while the session is running. You can end a session at any time, and you can revoke microphone access in iOS Settings — the app cannot hold a conversation without it.
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal data, such as correction or objection. Email us and we will honour them.
Children
Safa is not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, email us and we will remove it.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, we will update this page and, for anything significant, tell beta testers directly.
